The NFL is a huge client, and they have used his equipment at Super Bowls, Pro Bowls and league championships. Many major college programs are also clients as well as restaurants and other businesses with outside venues. “My misters cool you down and don’t get you wet,” he says. Since Chris also has an office in Austin, I hope to see him again in the future.
Wes and a Gold Star family in Bastrop
For the second year, Wes trained and participated in January in the Navy SEAL Foundation Frogman Swim in Tampa, Florida to benefit families of SEALs who made the ultimate sacrifice. This year he met the mother and step dad of Danny Dietz.
The book and movie “Lone Survivor” was about Operation Red Wing and four incredibly brave SEALs. Danny was one of the heroes who did not survive that incredible battle. Wes asked where they lived, and Cindy said “near Austin.” Yep, they live in Bastrop, and I’m glad to say I have met them both. She was out of town when Wes was here, but we had breakfast with Don before he left.
Never Quit March for PTS Awareness
Don and Cindy Dietz-Marsh are working with Ken Meyer, who has organized the 628-mile, Never Quit March for Post Traumatic Stress Awareness. Ken started in Conroe and he will arrive April 23 in Bastrop. The march will end at Crystal Beach in time for this year’s Frog Festival.
Don and Cindy are organizing events here, and I am honored to be of assistance. I will fill you in on details and how you can help as that information becomes available. Ken says, “All proceeds from fundraising will be donated to the Lone Survivor Foundation to help their mission to restore, empower and renew hope for our wounded service members.”
Bastrop Art in Public Places Names 2016 winning artists
Bastrop Art in Public Places (BAIPP) will present winners of the 2016 Downtown Bastrop Sculpture Project at a reception and awards ceremony on Saturday. It takes place from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Bastrop Convention and Exhibit Center.
Ten winning sculptures on loan to the city will be on public display for a year in Bastrop’s historic downtown. We are all invited to attend and meet the artists. Maps of the artwork installation locations throughout downtown will be available by 2 p.m. at the front entrance of the convention center.
The top three artists will be recognized at 4 p.m. Winners were selected by an independent panel of jurors, with the winners receiving $1,500 for first place, $1,000 for second place and $500 for third place.
“The Bastrop Art in Public Places Board is committed to making visual art accessible for all local citizens and visitors,” said Deborah Johnson, BAIPP chairperson and local artist and art gallery owner. “We are pleased to introduce new artwork to this popular outdoor exhibition, enhancing Bastrop’s reputation as a cultural arts destination.”
The 2016 winning artists are Michael Goulart, Peter Mangan, Pokey Park, Dan Pogue, Dar Richardson, Jack Robbins, Jay Schaan and Anthony St. James. The Downtown Bastrop Sculpture Project, in its second year, is a popular attraction for tourists visiting the city.
Congratulations to all of the winners, and congratulations to BAIPP for an outstanding job.
Business After Hours Bingo fun
The Texas Boot Company was the locale for this month’s “Business After Hours.” The get-togethers, sponsored by the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce, are a way to meet business owners and other chamber members. We played bingo by having chamber and committee members sign our cards in the appropriate squares.
Owner Marc Conselman was on hand and offered up a $100 gift certificate. Some of the folks sharing the fun were Tina Fucile, Adena Lewis, Susan Nogues, Buddy Holley, Jami Haney, Becki Womble, Dock Jackson, Rick Gullikson, Larry Lynn, and Johnny Sanders. There were lots of other folks there, but I have lost my notes! It was fun.
Until Next Week
That’s all for now. Until next week, be good to yourself. Let me hear from you by email at mooreaboutbastrop@yahoo.com so I can share the fun things that are going on in and around Bastrop.
